We Ate Some of the Woods…
We ate some of the woods
And took a walk in it
Ignoring property lines, my mind melted
Neither the sun or the moon was home
But the darkness between the trees felt friendly
And it was; and it is
In this instance, the enemy is bright
A strip of light, abrasive and permanent
We attempt to flee what never sleeps
We charge on into the natural
Each twist of the path is a deja vu
Each tree is equally an alien
It’s as if I am mingling amongst a reunion of which I wasn’t invited;
But welcomed nonetheless
The hill breaths an ancient breath
The rocks float as it does
Trees begin to thin, and I feel naked
The only answer is up
So We climb, like a drowning child
Frantic for ascension
With eager smiles, ready for a new perspective
However, peaks are hard to reconcile
I feel as if I have just conquered a friend
And I’m left with a view of my enemy
I feel as if I can never stay long
I feel as if I have no right
I feel as if I have overstayed my welcome
I merely borrow the beauty
I inhale with my transparent eye and I exhale just the same
Sadly, All walks in the woods must come to an end
Is it really my friend? Or am I just too blind to see, I love it more than it loves me?
